Covid-19 support for businesses in New Zealand

Funding and support for businesses in New Zealand.

I’ll keep this to the point as I’m sure you have been inundated with Covid-19 update emails. Our partners Google and Facebook have released funding schemes which could benefit you as well as recent support updates from the government and we want to make sure you’re aware of these as you may qualify. I’ve also created a live document with helpful tips on managing remote work teams, stress, and mental wellbeing. More to that below..

What’s on offer?

Google funding:

Google is funding SMBs worldwide with $340 million in ad credits, which can be used at any point until the end of 2020 across our Google Ads platforms. SMBs who have been active advertisers since the beginning of 2019 will see a credit notification appear in their Google Ads account in the coming months. If you have recently paused we are recommending a small brand budget ($2 per day) to ensure you have the highest likelihood of receiving this credit.

We will be monitoring your account and reporting on any credits that are credited directly to your account. We have yet to see this be rolled out across our clients in NZ and AUS but will update you as we see these come through if you have qualified.

Facebook funding:

Facebook is offering USD 100M in cash grants and ad credits to help during this challenging time. To be applicable, you need to register your email to their database and be an advertiser with Facebook.

Regional Business Partner Network funding:

You can apply for funding in key areas including business continuity planning, finance, HR, and wellness. The Regional Business Partner Network can help with the funding assistance of $1000-$2000.

Firefly has access to some top coaches, consultants and HR specialists in the country which we can recommend if you are interested in pursuing this further. We have also submitted our application and waiting final approval to be a registered business on the network, where we can help you with business continuity and digital marketing planning for your business so you can survive and thrive.

How do I qualify?

Your business has fewer than 50 full-time equivalent employees
Your business is registered for GST in New Zealand

Covid-19 Resource:

I’ve created a COVID-19 business resource pack to help you out. It has useful information, links, and also personal hacks I use to maintain stress levels and stay healthy through tough situations which I think you will appreciate.

You don’t need to look far back in history to gain a better perspective on what is happening right now. We certainly have not experienced a pandemic however we have braved many financial storms and recessions before.

During the great depression, Post Cereal which was a category leader and significantly reduced their ad spend. Kellogg doubled its spending, increased profitability by 30% and became the market leader quickly.

During 1973-75 oil crisis, the 17-month recession brought about the US’s first miles-per-gallon report. Toyota Motor stayed true to its long-term growth strategy and overtook Volkswagen as the best selling foreign vehicle.

In the 1990-91 recession, Pizza Hut and Taco Bell took advantage of McDonald’s decision to drop its advertising budget. As a result, Pizza Hut increased sales by 61% and Taco Bell grew by 40%. McDonald’s sales declined by 28 %.

Yes, these are large businesses, but there is an opportunity available to everyone who is looking for it. How?

✅Lower cost per clicks (we audited 100 accounts and noticed a 42% reduction in click costs).
✅Decision makers are more accessible than ever.
✅A surge of online behaviour and traffic (highest usage on social media currently).
✅Most people have more spare time on their hands than before.
✅More and more people globally are now used to purchasing online which will change the way business is done moving forward. Just look at how this has changed China and its online purchasing habits. The same will happen here.

How can we help?

If you are looking to pivot to an online-model our team can get you set up with your own online store. Firefly is a Shopify partner and has a web team ready to deploy high performing e-commerce solutions that sell products or services for you 24/7 without the need for brick and mortar.

We have also created campaigns for our customers to take advantage of the lower advertising costs to create a backlog of demand for when they are able to service them. Having a strong pipeline of new customers will help with cash flows.

We can help with key messaging out to your customers through email, or if you are one of the lucky few that can market through the lockdown, we can help you double down and take advantage of this growth opportunity.

We are here to help you survive and thrive. If you would like to discuss strategy with our team just reply to this email or contact your usual account manager.
We appreciate your attention and wish you success.
